Half Rai

Physical Description: Half-Rai look very much like their Rai parents. They are smaller in stature and their horns are often not nearly as large. While they are smaller, they are no less tenacious and goal-driven.

Society: Half-Rai have no society all their own. They often find it easier to assimilate into the society of their non-Rai parent. Some find it difficult to keep up with the chores and tasks of the Rai side of the family. Less tribal Rai tend to see Half-Rai as equals, valuing them as they would any other Rai. More feral, tribal Rai see them as weak because of their smaller size. They have more to prove in these situations and their ambition can far outweigh their physical appearance, driving them to be better, stronger, and faster than some Rai. The Rai that do accept Half-Rai as equals tend to mentor them, teaching them how to fight and, in some cases, the use of divine magic.

Relations: Half-Rai are tolerated nearly everywhere. Being tolerated and being accepted are two different things, though. Rai admire their tenacity but may not see a use for them while humans treat them no differently than they would a Half-Elf, an outsider.

Alignment and Religion: Half-Rai don't always share the tunnel-vision of their full Rai kin. They tend to stay in the middle, preferring neutral paths instead of the extremes.

Adventurers: A Half-Rai's belief in their own talents drives them to try great deeds, for good or ill. It's very rare for a Half-Rai to be satisfied just being a cobbler or a farmer, but some of them have been known to become scholars, and, in some communities, either tribe leaders or chiefs of the villages. Most Half-Rai are driven to become martial roles such as brawler and fighter where the more tribal ones stick to their barbarian roots.

+2 to One Ability Score: Half-Rai characters gain a +2 bonus to one ability score of their choice at creation to represent their varied nature.
Medium: Half-Rai are Medium creatures and have no bonuses or penalties due to their size.
Normal Speed: Half-Rai have a base speed of 30 feet.
Fearless: Half-Rai gain a +1 racial bonus on all saving throws against fear effects.
Keen senses: Half-Rai receive a +2 racial bonus on Perception checks.
Adaptability: Half-Rai receive Skill Focus as a bonus feat at 1st level.
Rai Blood: Half-Rai count as both humans and Rai for any effect related to race.
Languages: Half-Rai begin play speaking Common And Either Tien or One human language. Half-Rai with high Intelligence scores can choose any languages they want (except secret languages, such as Druidic). See the Linguistics skill page for more information about these languages. The bonus languages are not retroactive if you increase your Intelligence score.
